How our API integration works.

Connecting APIs to Rayven is incredibly simple and only involves a few short steps to ensure a seamless, secure integration with your platform.

The API Pull node allows users to retrieve data from an API endpoint via an HTTP GET request and our API Output node enables you to push information from Rayven to other applications, sending either specific fields or the entire JSON content to another system.

API Pull Node.

API - in

1. Select the API Pull Node.

Drag-and-drop it onto the Rayven workspace from the nodes list and name it.

2. Configure.

  • Enter the API URL endpoint.
  • Select an HTTP Method from the drop-down (GET, POST, or PATCH).
  • Enter the format for the payload the endpoint will return.

3. Advanced Features (optional).

  • Add a predetermined string to your request as a Bearer Token to get an approved response. 
  • If you want JSON object results returned in a new field, enter a new name under Result To Field.
  • Choose a URL Encoded Form.
  • Rayven supports JSON and x-www-form-encoded formats. When using POST or PATCH methods, you should provide a JSON object.

4. Configure Headers + Cookies (as required).

  • GET and POST methods require key and value pairs.
  • Configure cookies when connecting to external servers that demand them as identification.

5. Payload Date Settings.

You can configure data timestamps based on when data arrives from a device.

6. Security (optional).

Enter the User Name and Password required to access the API and set-up SSL/TLS encryption as required.

API Output Node.

1. Select the API Output Node.

Drag-and-drop it onto the Rayven workspace from the nodes list and name it.

2. Configure.

  • If required, enter a Password for the webAPI.
  • Rayven will generate a mandatory Pull URL for the webAPI.
  • Select Return Data as Received if you want the node to ignore any columns configured and send the JSON data as-is.
  • Select the Outbound Payload Formatthe API will receive. Choose from: JSON, XML, or CSV.

3. Customise Output Data via Columns.

  • Enter s Data Field Name. The first two columns created have the fixed default values of 'Device' and 'Event Time'.
  • Add a Display Name. This value should be the variable name displayed in the output.
  • Choose your Field Selection, either: Workflow Field (to display data from an incoming JSON object), Custom Table Field (to display data from a custom table field), Date (to display the date a device JSON reached the API node), or Device (to display the device name from device management).

4. Security (optional).

Set-up SSL/TLS encryption as required.
